Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice
The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Program prepares students for careers in the sub-agencies of the
criminal justice system and for continued education in professional and graduate schools. National and
international themes related to contemporary challenges to the police, courts, and corrections are among
those studied and explored in theory and in practice through a diverse curriculum. The Criminal Justice
Program seeks to educate students in the skills required for a successful professional career.
These skills include: critical thinking, the ability to communicate thoughts effectively in oral and written
form, research methods, statistical and data analysis, and computer technology. In addition, the program
teaches students to use ethical behavior in applying the knowledge acquired to factual situations and problems.
Admission Requirements
Freshmen:
High School graduate with no college experience
- Board of Regents' Core: 19 units (list attached)
- Minimum overall high school GPA: 2.0 (weighted average on 4.0 scale)
- Minimum ACT sub score: English > 18 or Math > 19*or
- Minimum SAT sub score: Critical Reading > 450 or Math > 460-470
*The student cannot need more than one development/remedial course
And ONE of the following
- GPA on the high school Core: 2.0 (weighted average on 4.0 scale)
Or
- ACT Composite: 20
- Complete an electronic Attestation Form attesting to high school graduation
- Computer with internet access
*NOTE: Graduates from Louisiana high schools: Transcript will be requested from Louisiana
Department of Education on behalf of student by SUBR. All other state high school graduates must
provide an official high school transcript. |
Home Schooled:
- ACT Composite: 23 or equivalent SAT 1060 (Critical Reading and Math scores combined)
- Home school certificate from State Department of Education
- Computer with internet access
Adult Learner < 25:
no college/post-secondary experience
- Meet SUBR freshmen admissions standards in place at time of graduation from high school
- Complete an electronic Attestation Form attesting to high school graduation
- Computer with internet access
Adult Learner > 25:
no college/post-secondary experience
- Possess a General Education Development (GED) certificate
- Complete an electronic Attestation Form attesting to high school graduation
- Computer with internet access

Transfer:
- 18 college credit hours including college-level math and college-level English w/ grade of C or
higher
- Cumulative GPA: 2.0 (4.0 scale)
- Provide all official college/post-secondary transcripts prior to registering
- Credits submitted for transfer evaluation must be from a regionally accredited institution
recognized by the U. S. Department of Education
*Note: All credits earned will be evaluated.
For courses to qualify for credit:
- The final grade must be a C or higher
- There must be an en equivalent course at Southern University and A & M College
- The transferred course must apply to the degree program of study
Police Academy Training/Certification:
Persons graduating from a city/municipal or state policy academy may be awarded credit. Applicants must submit with admission packet a certificate of completion of the program.

The Baton Rouge, Louisiana campus is located on Scott's Bluff overlooking the Mississippi River in the

500,000 and serves as a cultural, political, educational, and industrial center
for South Louisiana. The campus encompasses 512 acres, with an agricultural experimental
